The Taliesin Fellowship: more than a school, this was an apprenticeship program that Frank Lloyd Wright opened in 1932 on the Taliesin estate south of Spring Green. Open to both men and women, it eventually encompassed close to 70 people (including families) who lived at, worked in, and repaired or constructed buildings on the Taliesin estate. They later built Wright's winter home in Arizona (Taliesin West).
Most importantly, the apprentices worked in Wright's two drafting studios, and supervised many of his commissions. Members of the Fellowship also reshaped Spring Green: everyone knew summer had arrived when they saw Fellowship member Wes Peters newly arrived from Taliesin West, walking down the town's main street.
Presenter Information: Keiran Murphy has worked with Taliesin for 30 years, publishing articles and consulting with authors on Wright and his home. She assisted Paul Hendrickson with Plagued by Fire, and Ron McCrea with Building Taliesin. In September 2024 she was a recipient of a “Wright Spirit Award” from the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy.
